All seems to be OK in /dev , but : crw------- 1 root tty 5, 1 Jan 27 20:31 console a2000:/dev# echo '' >/dev/console bash: /dev/console: No such device The last message is not OK, the file is here, but nothing is behind, on another machine (without the problem) : crw------- 1 root tty 5, 1 2004-02-12 23:41 console k2000:/dev# echo "================" >/dev/console k2000:/dev# I get two or three message every second (7150 messages between 07:30 and 23:30) .... For the other messages I get messages every 5+ minutes as the tty is disabled for 5 minutes : Feb 13 00:04:49 a2000 init: Id "2" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes Feb 13 00:04:49 a2000 init: Id "3" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes Feb 13 00:04:49 a2000 init: Id "4" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes Feb 13 00:04:50 a2000 init: Id "5" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes Feb 13 00:04:50 a2000 init: Id "6" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes The previous lot was at "Feb 12 23:58:08" I think the two messages are from one problem : "getty" gets an abend becouse of /dev/console, as init sees it ended so quickly it suspend the automatic relaunch to avoid loops. So the only problem is /dev/console ! I try with different kernel, I didn't notice the problem with the older one I was using before november 2003 (2.4.21), but the problem with /dev/console is always here. Something is broken in my /dev/console ! Note : I didn't use devfs, I think I will try to understand what is it in a near future. Regards -- Storm66 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> N/A
