[I sent the original mail to dc16 local people, but I think I should make it public, for dc17 organisers, so I remove the very few sentences about my non-involvements. I send this on a public mailing list, because I don't understand the need of the feedback alias, especially if it is read outside very few dc16 and dc17 people. Anyway: don't worry, this mail is still longer then original mail, just because of this long introduction.]
Hello people! I'm very happy with the DebConf16! If was gorgeous. You know that I continuously said that every DebConf is the best one (compared the previous one). So obviously DebConf16 was better then the previous ones. But you did a lot better. Venue was cold, but nice. It is nice to have all people together. Having wireless on rooms, jemmies stairs, pub was very appreciated. Food was good (I was very worried about not having a caterer until very late, and about some comment by vegans), better than i can expect on a student cafeteria (aka: I never felt obliged to finish my dish). A nice front desk, and I really liked that power was provided around the venue (and also on the “keep out the grass”) and that you provided cables, adapted, postcards, etc. I really liked the day trips (just selected the few options at the very last minutes, and an unfortunate cancellation of the island trip). I liked the safari, and that we meet all together for the braai at the end of day trip (somewhat less that I missed the dessert). For me was a good compromise to a social activity to make all together and visit of choices. Location and food of aquarium was also superb. (and to be perfect, the conference dinner should have been preceded to few empty slot on schedule, to appreciate the penguins (or PINguins), especially considering the delays of buses. Website, logos, graphics were very well done. At the end we really had much text (which was missing on last DebConfs), also when there were larger teams. Design: I think DebConf (and Debian) never had such beautiful design (sponsorship brochure is .. art). [The only negative thing was the names on badge being too small, compared the available space]. Wafer: still unconvinced on some choices, but we already had a BoF about it. The reports of pollito, the jokes of cow, fantastic! That also keep people read carefully the daily announces. Open festival seemed good (from other comments). I arrived too late (and I missed DebCamp). All this fantastic job, with a small team [but many successful DebConf were done mainly by few people, who was not allowed to sleep for few weeks]. I'm also happy that you organised the DebConf, despite the trouble in the organisation (Thank you M.). I'm very happy that you continued anyway. I liked the weekly team meeting. Or better I liked that team meeting were hold every week. Somewhat less the organisation of meeting. I would liked more about status, request of help, and request of help on making decision, instead many time was something like presenting options. The orga was also too much cabalish, (IIRC it was never been so much). But probably this helped to get things done (without the never-ending discussion about who and how to take decisions) and reconstructing the team. “" oo <> <—- pollito say great job! squash me more! / \ | | || || | | |||| |||| |||| “‘'" Thank you for all! I'll never forget you and this DebConf! ciao cate PS: and closing one still unclosed parenthesis ) _______________________________________________ Debconf-team mailing list Debconf-team@lists.debconf.org http://lists.debconf.org/mailman/listinfo/debconf-team
