Replying top-level as I can't find a better place. There have been discussions about waves, both for CfP accenptance and for attendee sponsorships.
Having a staged approach would allow accepting good talks or obvious cases for sponsorship (if they exist; I do not know) early. Anyone else can refine over time or drop out, as they prefer. This leaves room for talks & people until later in the year.
