"Sponsored" refers to those who are attending *at no cost to themselves*, with their room and board paid from conference funds. Professional and corporate attendees are not sponsored, because they (or their employer) pay their way - but those payments have been made *to DebConf* as part of registration, and it is expected that DebConf will arrange rooms on their behalf.
