..... I have read the whole thread very sligthly and I do not really have time to elaborate, so sorry if i repeat stuff. I commute in Madrid (very) quite often from both south train station and atocha renfe to the airport, and the way back. So here it goes my experience... From airport (T2), to train station it usually takes me ~ 1:15 and to the south station ~1 hour assuming you leave in the correct exit (it is very bad signaled...), if you get confused and you exit to the street, add to that 10 min. In all cases ths time is once I got my luggage and when you already know the way... The way back it is about the same time. But ALSO there are 2 buses/days STRAIGHT FROM BARAJAS TO CÁCERES. Those buses leaves at 13:00 and 17:00 from the T1. map: http://www.avanzabus.com/web/archivos/base/File/Secciones/Aeropuerto%20Barajas/Plano%20parada%20servicio%20especial%20Barajas%20-%20Badajoz,%20C%C3%A1ceres,%20M%C3%A9rida,%20Navalmoral%20de%20la%20Mata,%20Salamanca,%20Toro,%20Trujillo%20y%20Zamora.jpg Those buses are from the same company, avanzabus. Airport-south bus station: there is only one way. You have to change from the line 8 to 6 in "Nuevos ministerios" and this change is quite a pain. In "nuevos ministerios" there is also "cercanias" trains there and it is a big place underground... (There is even a small public library there) It is easier to get the wrong way. From airport to Atocha Renfe, it does not matter if you do: -8 to Nuevos ministerios, 10 to tribunal and then 1 to Atocha Renfe. or -8 to Nuevos ministerios, 6 to pacífico and then 1 to Atocha Renfe. it is about the same time. Actually, you could even get a "cercanias" train from "nuevos ministerios" direct to Atocha :) But you have to pay it extra. And finally, I really advise against having metro/bus less than 2 hours after your flight lands...
