Hi all,

deal.II 8.4.2 finally made it into Debian Testing (aka "stretch") which
is currently in the "soft freeze" development cycle [1]. With that
version 8.4.2 also made it into two Ubuntu releases [2]:

  Yakkety Yak (current stable release)
  Zesty Zapus (active development)

Thanks to the awesome work of some members of the Debian Science team I
am very happy to announce that this deal.II version comes with a lot of
external dependencies enabled, most importantly Umfpack, OpenMPI, P4st,
Trilinos and PETSc.

If you happen to run one of the mentioned Linux distributions, you can
simply install deal.II and all its dependencies via

  $ sudo apt-get install libdeal.ii-dev libdeal.ii-doc g++ cmake

The offline documentation is located under

  /usr/share/doc/libdeal.ii-doc/html

The example steps can be find in

  /usr/share/doc/libdeal.ii-doc/examples

Best,
Matthias
