you are wrong imapsynccan be started as often as you like and sooner or later it has finished, means you can migrate over days and the last sync when all data are on the target can have the delete option to remove no longer on the source-server existing messages this maybe a much smoother way as export/transfer/import gigabytes of mysqldumps since it does not interrupt services
