I am currently running with qmail 1.03 in production with postgresql DB, replicating to backup db using slony. No idea regarding your mailbox questions. The server dbmail is running on houses all components, qmail, dbmail, postgres and it is 1 GB RAM w/ 3.4 Ghz processor. The backup server is exactly the same. Performance is great, no complaints at all. We are using it for POP/SMTP/IMAP primarily so local access and larger mailboxes might hinder the performance in our system. Sounds like you are thinking of using this as groupware, not sure if it manages easy enough for that type of use. For webmail we have been using IMAP compliant webmail clients and hate them no matter what the backend mail system is. When an ajax/dbmail project comes up I will be all over it. It's free, its stored in a database so it is highly available and easy to replicate. Those were my requirements.
