I remember a couple other folks reporting similar problems and this was it:
it may be too obvious but did you add LMTP to /etc/services and restart the
network?
lmtp 24/tcp
lmtp 24/udp

Mail is received, but it's sent out via a DNS lookup in spite
of the message being destined for a defined, local domain in Exim.
I've used the included Exim configuration hints, but I must be missing
something basic.
Do I need to add an entry to /etc/aliases or something of that nature to
tell Exim it is a valid local user so it can use the appropriate transport?
