Well IMAPD has sum suspicous behavour sumtimes. as i reported before imapd consumes masses of mysql-ressources. the release candidate spammed the database pretty soon with up to 400000 queries per second. since final 2.0 and the 2.0.1 too i have "another" problem. it seems that imapd KILLS the mysql server that hard that only rebooting helps to restart mysqld...

the mysqld had never any problems. the "only" mysqld was on srv1 of our machines which had problems. then i started imapd on srv2. so mysqld on srv1 did run perfectly again but this time mysqld did crash on srv2 (since imapd was running!). meanwhile i have to restart the whole mysql database (sumtimes even the server since mysqld cannot be stopped anymore!) every couple of days. i did already seach the logs (messages mysqld.log maillog ...) but could find any interesting. but the fact that every mysqld server does crash at sum time IF dbmail-imapd runs makes me damn nervous!!!

i think imapd has not yet the state for production purposes and should stated that with a correct version (e.g. beta but not final) (lmtp pop3 smtp does work perfectly so far)

regards

Simon

I have about 22 clients. I had these settings before I set the TIMEOUT higher.

NCHILDREN=60
MAXCONNECTS=20
TIMEOUT=1000

These are very similar to yours but I tried your setings. It did not help. I still have the problem...

Try these:

Set NCHILDREN higher.
Set MAXCONNECTS and TIMEOUT *much* lower.

example: If you run a 1.2.11 machine with 10 clients:

NCHILDREN=50
MAXCONNECTS=10
TIMEOUT=600

This will eat connections with the database for lunch though. So experiment. Especially NCHILDREN is critical. dbmail-1.2 doesn't have dynamic preforking so if your process pool is drained you're in trouble.

It may also be a dbmail issue.

Thunderbird will drop TCP sessions dead on the floor if it doesn't like the server response. Earlier dbmail versions had a hard time dealing with those situations. It took me a couple of hours tracing with ethereal to realize what was going on. It's still something I do when I run into unresponsive thunderbird clients.

Sorry, I was wrong. The problem still exists, but not so frequently... It can be reproduced with any kind of mailclients...
It is a very big problem.
Please help me!
