Dbmail cannot connect to the database server. Please make sure
/etc/dbmail/dbmail.conf is correct, the database-server is running,
the database for dbmail exists, and the dbmail user exists with all
necessary permissions. To re-configure /etc/dbmail/dbmail.conf run
  'dpkg-reconfigure dbmail'.

I had the same problem. Uninstalling libgmime2.1 and installing
libgmime2 solved the problem

Thank you. Ye, that did solve it.

I have to ask: How did you come to suspect libgmime2.1 --of all
things?

Thank you again. It is working now, and I have no idea why :-)

Cheers,
Ray
