I'm a tech writer, and I'm quite willing to write a README.logging for 2.0.1 and further releases. And I agree that we should sort out the log levels in the code; I could write a sensible description of what should be on each level, but I'll need to look into the code to make it as close as possible to the present situation. I'll report on whether each of the speedup pacthes actually gives better speed.
