I forgot to mention, that RH9 installs nobody (both user Id & group id = 99)
as default. I checked in the user/group and 'nobody' is there in both
places.

If somebody has another suggestion, I sure appreciate it.

I think this command:
groupadd nogroup
will solve your problems.
