    Can the original poster please test with MySQL 4.0. I wouldn't want to
    waste time on a problem that might result from using alpha stage software
    (MySQL 4.1 is in alpha stage). If the problem is still there with 4.0,
    then we might have a problem of our own.

Ok, it does work with mysql-4.0.16.  Might want to put up a note somewhere
that it doesn't work with the 4.1 series.
