True indeed. However, that was not the question asked.

I run Postfix compiled for MySQL and I'm very happy with it, however, if someone is attempting to install dbmail for the first time and wants to get it up and running to 'test' it, then there is not a huge need to compile postfix with MySQL support.

My understanding was that Kirti wanted to know if Postfix HAS to be compiled with MySQL support in order to use dbmail, and the answer to that is no.

Technically true, but you lose some serious advantages by NOT compiling MySQL (and/or PostgreSQL) support into Postfix - primarily the ability for Postfix to vet incoming mail against the dbmail aliases table, to reject invalid
destination mail BEFORE it is accepted.

You'll also want SQL support for using the POP-before-SMTP feature of dbmail, if you're not wanting to go with more complex SMTP verification methods.

You can always recompile it after the initial installation, however, once
you're satisfied with the minimul operation.

Hello List:

I am tryinging to install Postfix so I can then install dbMail. I have
one
question: While reading the Postfix documentation, I noticed that it
advises
to compile mySQL during the installation process. Is compiling the
mySQL
during installation necessary or I can just do a straight install of
Postfix
and then just follow the instructions to install dbMail?

Help. I am in the process of installing Postfix!!!

Kirti
