I agree with you regarding the SMTP authentication using SASL.
However, I would prefer at this moment the POP before SMTP method or
at least know if it is possible to find a solution regarding my issue.

Isn't it possible to identify somebody by dbmail-smtp using the FROM address?

I mean when somebody using POP then obviously he/she is identifiable and the pbsp table can contain the user id next to the IP address. Then when a SMTP request arrives, dbmail-smtp could check the FROM address of the email and look up the pbsp table entry based on it.

I was just thinking "loudly" here, I might be totally wrong.
What do you think?
