Something sounds weird to me; I think perhaps you're overlapping qmail and dbmail. Qmail is a very integrated system with all of its own parts. What you won't be doing is using qmail for POP, IMAP or local delivery (Maildir) Rather, for delivery, tell qmail to hand off messages to dbmail-smtp. For reading mail, use only dbmail's pop3d and imapd servers.
