im not using the debian package because is was not in
debian when i installed it..
and i dont know how to install it with your package.. :( (i'm still a newbie )
i downloaded it, but saw the same faults in the install script.
and i dont know how to use cvs (or install from cvs)
when i apt-cache search dbmail its not shown.
who do i install your package ?
It's not in debian proper (yet).
Add to your /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://debian.nfgd.net/debian unstable/
or
deb http://debian.nfgd.net/debian stable/
depending on your installation (sid or woody).

Debian builds should not and do not use the build.sh. The are build from
a functional autoconf setup (thanks Aaron).
The original INSTALL is only provided for additional background info,
i.e. how to setup the database backend.
The config in the debian setup is installed in /etc/dbmail/dbmail.conf.
which user uid & gid are needed for the smtp pop and imap daemons of dbmail?
Any user with sufficient privileges to read dbmail.conf will do.
Standard setups will
add a user/group dbmail, and drop privileges to match this user after
binding to the correct
ports.
6.1 For Debian:
dbmail unix - n n - - pipe
flags= user=dbmail:dbmail argv=/usr/sbin/dbmail-smtp -d
^^ ^^
( this is ? )
This specifies the uid/gid dbmail-smtp will run under when used as a
mailtransport from
postfix. In the debian build I'm working on this option is not strictly
needed since dbmail-smtp
is installed set-uid. The reason for this is that this will allow a
strict 0600 mode for dbmail.conf
while allowing regular users to run dbmail-smtp from postfix.
i have 1 question, ( sorry am a newbie ) , ;)
i have problems with acces rights, which uid/ gid is used for dbmail-smtp ? im running debian sid, postfix-mysql , dbmail from source ( not you package )
Dbmail-smtp will run dbmail:dbmail (user dbmail, group dbmail) when
started from master.cf. What exactly is your
problem.
Any specific reason you prefer not to use the debian package ? I'll
accomodate any reasonable objections to
the current build, and fix bugs of course :-)
