Did you edit the dbmail.conf to set DBMAIL_FROM_ADDRESS and POSTMASTER to
sensible values, else bounce messages end up in a big black hole at
dbmail.com.
is there a log file for the dbmail-smtp errors?
Log messages end up in syslog.
Check the TRACE_LEVEL for [SMTP] in dbmail.conf. Increase the level to
5 to get a complete backtrace for message insertion.
