Unfortunately, as I discovered in the manual ( https://darktable.gitlab.io/doc/en/geotagging.html), geotagging in dt doesn't work this way, with a gpx file containing the coordinates of one fixed point: dt needs a gpx file recorded by a GPS receiver during the photo session, with coordinates as well as timestamps, looks in it for the position at or near the same time as the one recorded in the picture exif data and uses that position to geotag the image.
