I don't know if this is a bug or intended behaviour : a big black bar is show when a module is opened in darkroom (as shown in the attached screenshot). It is a GTKLabel (iop-plugin-deprecated). I assume this area is used to show a warning if a deprecated module is selected, but this black box is also shown for every other module.
