I assume you're under Linux. There are 'all-in-one' application packages that ship both the software and the libraries (AppImage, FlatPak, snap). I have not been able to find an AppImage for darktable, but there seems to be a FlatPak for 3.2.1: https://flathub.org/apps/details/org.darktable.Darktable An AppImage one can just download, make executable (chmod +x whatever.appimage) and run (./whatever.appimage). I have not used FlatPak, but I'd think it's similar.
