Hello Julian,

I'm not a darktable core member.
I support the manual and have translated it into German.

Because no one from the darktable team has answered your questions yet, I'll
give it a try.

If you like to help optimize and proofread the user manual you will need
experience with
git, github and docbook / xml-files.

The user manual is written in docbook. The source of the user manual are xml
files, see
here:

https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/blob/master/doc/usermanual/
darktable.xml[1]

All files for the user manual are located here:
https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/tree/master/doc/usermanual[2]

First of all you will need a github account. Then you can fork the darktable
project.
Within the fork you can make your changes (local image of your fork on your
PC). The
changes will then pushed into the darctable project by pull requests. In the
internet you
will find some help how github works (e.g.
https://lab.github.com/githubtraining/
introduction-to-github[3] )

That should be enough for now.
Everything else will follow when you're ready e.g. how to build the user manual.
