I know that there's been a message about halting new features for the
next release in December but I'd like to post this for, if nothing
else, future consideration.
It is my understanding that the Simple Text watermark content must be
in SVG format. However, the documentation is not very clear on how to
do this. I do have Inkscape on my Linux Mint system which I've used to
create a graphical watermark but for another purpose, I'd like to use
some of the features (variable strings) available to the Simple Text
watermark option to create a dynamic watermark.
First of all, whether or not I use Inkscape, instructions on how do
use, for example, $(IMAGE.FILENAME), are not to be found in the
documentation.

Secondly, if the content of a Simple Text can only be text (plus text
styling such as font, colour, etc), then perhaps a future version of
dt could include an editor that allows the user to use/pick variable
strings and type text (such as "This photo was taken on $(EXIF.DATE)"
but at the same time, shield the user from the complexity of SVG/XML.
Thanks for listening,
Jules
