When setting collect to show just a few images you get an instant startup? In the cases where dt doesn't come up immediately, what do you see? A GUI just consisting of a grey background without any buttons? No window at all? A GUI that is showing everything but isn't reacting to user interaction? I am asking as for me darktable always starts in less than a second with 10k images in the collection, collect module set to show all images, and the crawler enabled.
