I've messed things a little bit :).
If a mask has little size, is internal countur cannot be selected with a mouse. Moving across the mask with mouse cursor changes selection from one internal section to the opposte one without selecting the whole contour. So the mask cannot be neither changed in size nor its fading area can be adjusted.
If it is a spot removing tool, the whole mask can be selected by its source part.
