Maybe agree on who's going to translate what and start working. If you want to 
get an up-to-date .po file and build the manual with your changes you have to 
check out the darktable sources from Github and install at least the minimal 
build requirements. The complete set of commands needed is this:

cd /path/to/where/you/want/the/sources # we will call this $BASEDIR
git clone https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable.git
cd darktable
mkdir build
cd build
cmake ..
make update-usermanual-de
# translate $BASEDIR/doc/usermanual/po/de.po
make darktable-usermanual-de
# you now have %BASEDIR/build/doc/usermanual/darktable-usermanual-de.pdf
