I found a post in the mailing list archive which describes the exact problem I have, see below. I also have lots of tifs in one folder, sometimes darktable can load the file but most of the time it just crashes. Also a tif seems to not always trigger the problem, but when it does i have to delete the ./config/darktable folder in order to start darktable at all. I used a git version (1.7.0someting). An update to the latest 2.0git rpm for my distro (opensuse 13.2) doesn't help. To answer to the suggestions of Tobias (see below), I don't load the whole folder but only single files. Also the problem seems to occure very randomly, there are no specific not working files, or maybe they are somehow all corrupted. I have to mention that I use ffmpeg to generate those tifs from video files.
I uploaded one of the files here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/moihnsx2u9jgy4j/export_000598.tif?dl=0 >Am Mittwoch, 3.
