The Defence Dept at Defence Plaza-661 Bourke St- was shutdown for the second time in 2 weeks. Activists succeeded in their aim of disrupting the war machine. They will be back next week.
A slightly bigger crowd than last week showed up (about 50 people). With these numbers they shutdown the CBD's major Defence Dept building. The building contains 100's of employees working on the war machine that is currently murdering Iraqis for the profits of oil companies and other corporations.
There was police in abundance, a pack of horses, plastic barriers and a big brawler van. Apart from a bit of argy-bargy with one person trying to get in, things were pretty peaceful.
The workers had assembled elsewhere in the city and about half-an-hour after we left streamed down the street and scurried into their offices. This was at about 11:30am.
This action organised by the Direct Action Peace Network will continue next week with more focus on creative picketing. Bring your songs, musical instruments, drums, pots/pans, etc...
PLACE: Defence Plaza-661 Bourke St(Near Spencer St Station) TIME: Monday 7th April From 7:30am
