The air campaign - trends and developments
The air war over Iraq will be different from the last major air campaign involving the US and its allies - Operation 'Enduring Freedom' over Afghanistan - and the 1990-91 Gulf War. However, there will be clear echoes from both of these operations and lessons from each will be applied to the latest conflict as it unfolds.

Nimrod spearheads UK's precision strike capability
The UK Royal Air Force (RAF) will be obtaining a discrete, but far-reaching precision strike capability when it finally fields its planned fleet of 18 BAE Systems Nimrod MRA.4 maritime patrol aircraft "some time after 2006," RAF officers have disclosed.

UK signs Sting Ray Mod 1 upgrade contract
The UK's stock of Sting Ray lightweight torpedoes, used by the Royal Navy (RN) and Royal Air Force (RAF), is to be upgraded for another 20 years' service. The Underwater Systems Division of BAE Systems signed the Pds441 million (US$711m) production contract to undertake the work, known as Mod 1, with the UK Defence Procurement Agency (DPA) on 14 February.
