The Pentagon has confirmed it targeted missiles and rocket launchers in a
heavily populated area of Baghdad overnight.
Iraqi television has shown pictures of a popular market place hit by a
missile strike, in which local officials say at least 14 people died.

The Australian military commander in Iraq has revealed Australian soldiers
are fighting on the front line with American and British units.
SAS soldiers are the only troops widely known to be on the ground inside Iraq.
An Australian contingent commander, Brigadier Maurie McNairn, says about 33
Australians are deployed on exchange programs with UK and US forces.
Some are fighting on the front line.
"A number of them are certainly in harm's way at the moment," he said.
But as coalition troops head for Baghdad, Brigadier McNairn says he cannot
be sure exactly where those Australian soldiers are.
"Most of those units are moving fairly fast," he said.
