The Destroyer shoe company, which employs more than 210 people over three sites, has invested more than $1 million in the project which sees tiny transponders embedded in the sole.
The firm said it expects the development to boost sales by as much as 25 per cent and give it a larger share of the domestic industrial shoe market.
However, the development has raised concerns in some quarters over companies being able to moinitor their workers' movements at all times, with union chiefs saying they could allow bosses to spy on staff.
