BAT-armed UAVs are ready for combat
Under a quick reaction programme begun in mid-January 2003,
Northrop Grumman
Electronic Systems has begun delivering the first two dozen
repackaged
BAT [Brilliant Anti-armor] submunitions to the US Army together
with a
small number of Hunter unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) modified to
deliver
the lethal payload on battlefield targets, writes Scott Gourley.

Belgium launches vehicle project
The Belgian Army will issue a request for quotation (RfQ) for its
Armoured
Infantry Vehicle/Mobile Gun System (AIV/MGS) programme later this
year.

Bushmaster passes first reliability stage
The Australian Army's new Bushmaster 4 x 4 mine-protected infantry
mobility
vehicle (IMV) has passed the first stage of the Reliability Growth
Programme
(RGP), implemented last year to improve aspects related to its
automotive
and engineering reliability (Jane's Defence Weekly 19 June 2002).

M60 Phoenix reaches operational status
The Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) took delivery of its first
operational quantity
of upgraded M60 Phoenix tanks on 19 February 2003, when 14
vehicles were
formally assigned to the 3rd Company/26th Tank Battalion at the
King Hussein
Main Workshop near Amman. The remainder of the 44-tank battalion
is expected
to have been re-equipped by mid 2003.
