International Criminal Court inaugurated, without US
backing
The official inauguration of the international criminal court
goes ahead today at The Hague.
The court will be able to try individuals for crimes against humanity
committed anywhere in the world.
The court has been ratified by 89 countries, although the United States
does not support it.
President Bush's administration fears US citizens could be the target of
politically motivated prosecutions, and has already signed agreements
with 24 countries guaranteeing immunity for US nationals.
