An Adelaide businessman who robbed thousands of people in Australia and overseas by debiting their online credit cards has been sent to jail.

Rohan James Dunstan, 43, of Mitcham pleaded guilty to stealing a total of $570,000 in 2000 and 2001.

The District Court in Adelaide heard Dunstan operated a company called First E-Com, which facilitated online payments to high-profile travel group Flight Centre.

With his company foundering, Dunstan began stealing small amounts from thousands of credit card holders in Australia and overseas.

The prosecution said this sort of crime severely affects the integrity of electronic commerce.

Judge John Sulan said he would sentence Dunstan in April and revoked his bail.
