US to address cost worries on 'systems of systems'
The US Army still faces important questions about whether its
complex
Future Combat Systems (FCS) programme is affordable and
technically feasible,
even as the service launches the next development phase in
preparation
for fielding systems in just six years, say military and industry
officials.

More firepower for Piranha IV
The Swiss MOWAG Piranha IV 8 x 8 vehicle has recently been fitted
for
trials with a Delco Systems two-person turret armed with a fully
stabilised
ATK Gun Systems 30mm Bushmaster cannon.

Introduction to Light Armoured Vehicles Special Report
An increasing number of countries have already or are planning to
acquire
fleets of 6 x 6 and 8 x 8 light armoured vehicles (LAVs). In some
cases
these have virtually replaced their tracked counterparts, while
other
countries have opted for a more balanced force structure of
heavier tracked
and lighter wheeled vehicles. There are advantages to both.

ISRAEL - IMI ammunition range expanded
Israel Military Industries (IMI) has expanded its range of
artillery ammunition
into calibres used by former-Soviet Union-designed artillery
systems,
using its M85 bomblet that features a self-destruct mechanism,

TOW gains a new lease on life
The US Army's Aviation and Missile Command has funded Raytheon to
conduct
qualification testing of the TOW 2B Extended Range (ER) variant,
involving
the firing of 10-12 rounds at Redstone Arsenal, and is expected to
award
the company a contract in December for a six-year production
program covering
Fiscal Years 2004-09.
