WHITE SUPREMACISTS I
About 75 neo-Nazis and members of the Ku Klux Klan shared their messages
primarily with each other Saturday. The racialists were protesting outside
the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Alabama and spent their time
shouting about the Law Center’s Morris Dees, Jews, other non-Christians,
blacks and anyone else who didn’t meet with their approval. "These filth up
here want us to race mix," Robert Crockett told demonstrators while
pointing up at the SPLC building. "We want to look around and see white
children and white neighbors. We pledge allegiance to our white race."
Richard Butler, who despite it all is still walking the planet, was among
those present. Butler and his Aryan Nations came on hard times a couple
years back when it lost its property and church to a woman who successfully
sued the organization after she and her son were beaten by Aryan Nations
security guards. Dees represented the woman.
The supremacist group was granted the right to spread its message of white
power by the city of Montgomery, but there were no other permits issued.
The public was denied access to the demonstration and there were no counter
protests. The SPLC complex itself is tightly secured as the result of
numerous attacks and plots to attack the organization's property and
leadership over the years. Parts of the complex in downtown Montgomery are
blast proof and security guards monitor the building 24 hours per day,
seven days per week.
The racialists on hand were members of at least eight white supremacist
groups including Aryan Nations, the Southern Patriots Party, the American
White Knights and the Creativity Movement. The demonstration was organized
by Billy Roper’s new group, White Revolution (although the permit was
issued to the oft used front name "Taxpayers Against Terrorism"). "We're
all standing together because we're all white nationalists," said Billy
Roper. Roper was recently booted out of the National Alliance (NA) because
he wanted to be more inclusive of other white supremacists then did the NA.
Roper had, for example, been the person within the NA who had been working
to forge an alliance with the Matt Hale and the World Church of the Creator
(WCOC). However, the dearly departed former NA Big Head William Pierce last
April before dying switched gears on Roper and ridiculed the WCOC and other
such groups. Said Pierce, "..the Alliance has no interest at all in the
so-called 'movement.' We're not interested in uniting with the movement,
and we're not interested in competing with the movement for members. If
anything, we should be grateful that the movement is out there to soak up a
lot of the freaks and weaklings who otherwise might find their way into the
Alliance and make problems for us. In this regard, I was sorry to note
Aryan Nations and the [World] Church of the Creator [the two other major
neo-Nazi groups in America] have, for all practical purposes, died in the
last few weeks. I hope one or two replacement groups spring up to draw away
from us the defectives." At the same meeting at which Pierce spoke the man
who was to succeed him, Erich Gliebe (who managed the white power music
label Resistance Records), launched into a harangue about the "morons" and
"hobbyists" who inhabit other groups and sometimes even manage to slip into
the Alliance. "We have a great opportunity to really shape the future of
our struggle and task at hand," Gliebe barked, "and to totally wipe out
this make-believe world otherwise known as 'the movement.' Roper’s
outreach, along with his continuing ties to Skinheads and others who would
never be allowed into the elitist National Alliance, had thus alienated him
from Pierce other NA staff. To them, Roper was ignoring a basic tenet of
Pierce’s — that the Alliance is a vanguard party, an elite group that will
lead the "lemmings" of white America to ultimate victory. Roper lost out in
the post Pierce power struggle and consequently went his own way forming
White Revolution. (By the way, Gliebe and Co. figured out in the fall of
2002 that it had made a big mistake and began frantically trying to soothe
relations with all those "morons" it had earlier dismissed).
White Revolution says of itself, "What makes us different: -Rather than
being just another pro-White membership organization, White Revolution is
designed to serve as an umbrella coalition of racial activists from every
pro-White organization, as well as independent and unaffiliated patriots of
our Western civilization from across the country and around the world."
