I read an article in Pop Sci (of all places) back in the 60s to the effect of sleep deprivation as being completely effective. *IF* you had the time. Brutality and drugs can break a person in a matter of hours to days at the outside. SD can take weeks, or longer. Though the report thought that results gained by SD were more reliable.
