Police probe spy leak By Kerry Taylor March 15 2002 The Australian Federal Police are investigating how secret information on East Timor's violent anti-independence movement was leaked to the media. The Age yesterday reported that the Federal Government had intelligence reports showing Indonesian generals were involved in the 1999 violence but failed to share it with United Nations investigators. The reports were Defence Signals Directorate electronic intercepts. Defence Minister Robert Hill yesterday said federal police were investigating the alleged leak. Senator Hill - who refused to confirm the report - said Australia did supply information, based on intelligence, to the UN investigators but he would not elaborate on what the nature of the information was, citing matters of security.
