property taxes vary from 0.18% (louisiana) to 1.89% (new jersey) and
in between those there's often a low state adjacent to a high state
the tax is a percent of value, so lower the lower the value of the property.
so if one got a $100,000 piece of land in louisiana (and there might
be places much cheaper than that), then that would be $18,000 a year
which sounds high and reduces to 18/12=9/6=3/2= $1,500/month
now $1,500/month still sounds very high, but my social security is
higher than that. i could pay it. of course we'd have to add a
mortgage onto the taxes. so let's look for cheaper spots in louisiana.
this property is $20,000 for a third of an acre:
https://www.landsearch.com/properties/3456-hardy-st-shreveport-la-71109/3869505
it's not common to see property that cheap. but it's real. and people
commonly engage mortgages which lets one pay for the property slowly
over many years, so the $20,000 would be split up over some years.
i'm not experienced with property taxes, but if we multiply the % by
the $ then the taxes would be ... only $36/year.

you could have property for only $36/year.

it sounds like it did the taxes wrong the first time, i think i
misuses 0.18% as 18% which is incredibly much higher .$100,000 comes
to $180 when multiplied by 0.18% .

so property taxes are something that's possible. somebody could pay
for minimal property taxes by begging for money.
