For a few months with my own CVS cygwin1.dll builds, as well now with the last few snapshots, I can't get cron to start:
$ net start cron The service is not responding to the control function. More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2186. Reverting to 1.7.0-50 cygwin1.dll fixes this problem. I don't think it was a very recent CVS change since I had this problem with my CVS builds before 1.7.0-50, but the issue was not present in the release. I guess it must be something in common with my, and the snapshot, build process that is different from the release process? Cron is installed as a service under the cyg_server user. Reinstalling the service does not change the behavior.
