Not always so convenient, actually. For one, some packages assume that tk is X11 based: http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin-xfree/2008-08/msg00018.html Secondly, GDI and Cygwin don't always make a good mix, e.g.: http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2008-07/msg00457.html Just to name a few recent incidents. As for the installation requirements, remember that the new X11 will be modular, and since tk only requires libX11, the install will be much lighter than in the past.
