That error is being reported by cygwin itself, not git. Do you, by
chance, have any one of these known dodgy apps installed, which could be
interfering with cygwin's ability to emulate fork()? I have never seen
git-clone fail in my experience (although I will admit that I haven't
cloned all that often).
I removed all antivirus, spywares and firewalls from my PC, but the problem
still happens...
