It's been noted in the past that disabling is often not enough with these kinds of intrusive (and buggy) programs. I'd recommend trying to uninstall it. If you cannot do that for some reason and cannot switch to another vendor which doesn't have this problem, make sure you're running the latest version of McAfee. Who knows.
