Except that the standard versioned directory structure also allows users to put customizations for all users in /usr/share/vim/vimfiles while the distributed files go in /usr/share/vim/vim<version>. I don't see the advantage to changing vim's standard directory structure. Also, I understand that Cygwin doesn't _support_ the installation of multiple vim versions, but I don't see why it should _disallow_ such installations.
