What about the top-posting, the cross-posting, and the replying to yourself without trimming the message? Besides, the maintainer of the autoconf package probably tracks this upstream; and most other maintainers are affected by this only when their upstream sources upgrade autoconf versions. Posting to the cygwin mailing list was probably a waste of your time.
