That's just the standard PE header version fields, which isn't really useful. The meaningful version is stored as a resource and can be viewed in explorer: right click, Properties, Version tab, "Product Version". It should be between 4 and 6, as explained here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/shellcc/platform/shell/programmersguide/versions.asp I don't recall which minimum version setup.exe was coded to require, but it seems that not even having IE3 (comctl32 v4.7) is probably going to be a problem. > Is Setup.exe compressed or something? objdump -x doesn't show me its > list of needed symbols. Yes, it's upx packed as Dave said. But that might not tell you the whole picture, as I seem to recall that it loads comctl32.dll dynamically, so it wouldn't show up that way anyway.
