Definitely a cygwin bug; probably related to the removal of d_ino changing the d_version field of struct dirent from 1 to 2. Reproducible test case: $ uname -a CYGWIN_NT-5.1 LOUNGE 1.5.19s(0.149/4/2) 20051224 14:32:37 i686 Cygwin $ ./foo . .. file1 file2 foo.c foo.exe . .. $ cat foo.c $ cat ../foo.c #include <stdio.h> #include <sys/stat.h> #include <errno.h> #include <string.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <libgen.h> #include <dirent.h> int main (int argc, char* argv[]) { DIR* dir; struct dirent* dp; dir = opendir("."); if (! dir) exit(1); while ((dp = readdir(dir)) != NULL) printf("%s\n", dp->d_name); closedir(dir); return 0; } - -- Life is short - so eat dessert first!
