Ah. Try setting it to just "rxvt". It's very likely that the Solaris terminfo database has no idea what "rxvt-cygwin-native" is, but it should know rxvt. Or it could be that this application is using the legacy termcap database instead of terminfo, and there's no termcap file for rxvt-cygwin-native. For convenience you can set this when you invoke rxvt with "-tn rxvt". The reason it works in a subshell of emacs is that emacs is probably setting TERM to something different, since it is providing the pseudoterminal.
