I don't know why I thought I was checking the later snapshots, but apparently I wasn't. All snapshots 20050319 and later work just fine with the above perl invocation. This is presumably due to <http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin-cvs/2005-q1/msg00210.html> (thanks, CGF). Apologies to everyone for the noise.
